Imagine you’re in a large group project, and you and your teammates have worked tirelessly to bring it to completion. Now, imagine that some of your teammates decide that they are done with the project, despite it not being finished or meeting all its goals. How would you feel? Frustrated, betrayed, and left to shoulder the burden alone, right? Well, that’s how lower-income countries must feel when wealthier nations consider the pandemic over just because things are improving for them. According to a senior World Health Organization official, this perspective is dangerous and could have dire consequences. We cannot turn a blind eye… we have to keep pushing forward! It is crucial that richer nations continue to actively support and aid low-income countries in their COVID response efforts. Failure to do so would be negligence on a global scale with devastating effects. Let’s not forget that we are all interconnected, and the health of one nation affects the health of us all.
